TNT “THE LAST SHIP”

The Last Ship is a weekly television drama on the TNT cable network. The story centers around a single Naval destroyer whose mission is to save the world from a global pandemic virus that has wiped out eighty percent of the planet’s population. Produced by Michael Bay, The Last Ship stars Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, and Adam Baldwin.

ESPN “UNCOMMON VALOR”

The incredibly heroic story of United States Marine Kyle Carpenter is one of courage, survival, and selflessness that is sure to move the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to hear it. He is one of only two living United States Marine Medal of Honor recipients and rightly celebrated in this touching tribute from ESPN’s E:60.

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

Battle: Los Angeles is a 2011 Marine science fiction film set in modern-day LA. It follows a retiring Marine Staff Sergeant played by Aaron Eckhart who leads a platoon of Marines and other military personnel in opposition to a global alien invasion.

STORIES

Making Marines, winning our Nation’s battles and returning quality citizens are the three promises the United States Marine Corps makes to the Nation. We call these promises “Battles Won.” Keeping these promises has resulted in some incredibly moving and at times awe inspiring stories of bravery, heroism and triumph of the human spirit. Here are just a few examples of these stories that can be brought to life.

CORPORAL KYLE CARPENTER

Corporal Kyle Carpenter is one of only two living Medal of Honor recipients. His story is one of unbelievable courage and selflessness. Beginning with a fighting spirit recognized at an early age, building on his enlistment in the Marine Corps and carrying through his personal fight to survive and overcome overwhelming odds.

1st LT. REBECCA TURPIN

1st Lt. Rebecca Turpin is a recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” for her bravery and leadership. Around mid-December 2008 Turpin’s convoy came under heavy attack in the Helmand province of Afghanistan. She led her Marines through IED laden passages and an RPG ambush, successfully completing their mission without serious injury.

BATTLE FOR MARJAH

Marines provided key support during operation Maiwand. Maiwand involved three offensive operations in which the Marines were given the mission of clearing insurgents from the Nad-e Ali and Marjah areas.

OPERATION PHANTOM FURY

The 2nd Battle of Fallujah was deemed Operation Phantom Fury. The mission was to root out insurgents, house by house and in the city of Fallujah that had been heavily fortified and booby trapped by opposing forces. Marines ultimately killed or captured the insurgents occupying the city, successfully completing their mission by year’s end.

JOHN RIPLEY

John Ripley was a United States Marine Corps Officer and Navy Cross recipient. His story is legendary in the Marine Corps. On Easter morning 1972, Captain Ripley put himself in grave danger while hanging from a bridge for over three hours placing explosives. His actions helped prevent the North Vietnamese Army from advancing into South Vietnam.

JOHN BASILONE

John Basilone received both the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism during the battle of Iwo Jima and the Medal of Honor for heroism during the battle for Henderson Field in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He was the only enlisted Marine to receive both decorations in World War II.
